The Nigel community has turned outrage into action after a disturbing video surfaced showing a man assaulting a high school learner near the John Dube MegaCity Flats in Duduza. The footage, which quickly went viral, captures a man — allegedly an Isuzu driver — aggressively slapping the young girl in full view of the public.
What followed was not silence, but mobilization.
Within hours, the Kasi Anti-Crime Unit, alerted by Izinkabi Ezizimele — a grassroots Bolt-affiliated safety group — began a coordinated manhunt. With support from Mavalane Security Services, the suspect was tracked to a motor spares shop in Nigel.
"This was not just a reaction — it was a community-led mission to deliver justice," said a spokesperson from the Kasi Anti-Crime Unit. “We will not allow our youth, especially our daughters, to be violated without consequence.”
The suspect was arrested on Friday and is now in custody at Duduza Police Station. A case has officially been opened by the learner, and the accused is expected to appear before the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 April 2025.
The Kasi Anti-Crime Unit has strongly condemned the act and called on communities to speak out and protect victims of gender-based violence.
